CAMP SHELBY, Miss. - Army Reserve Soldiers assigned to the 75th U.S. Army Reserve Innovation Command's Technology Assessment Teams spent two weeks in the field evaluating the latest counter-drone technology. The live-fire assessments took place from June 7 to June 20, 2026, as part of the larger Operation Sentinel Justice 26 exercise.
The teams focused on Counter-small Unmanned Aircraft Systems, or C-sUAS, testing a range of weapon platforms designed to detect, track, and disable small drones. These drones have become a growing threat on modern battlefields, used for surveillance and attacks by enemy forces. The evaluations aimed to determine which systems work best under real-world conditions.
Soldiers ran through multiple scenarios, engaging drone targets with both electronic jammers and kinetic weapons. The goal was to see how well each system performed in terms of accuracy, response time, and ease of use. Data collected during the exercise will help shape future Army procurement and training decisions.
The 75th USARIC is known for bringing together Reserve Soldiers with civilian tech backgrounds. Many of the evaluators work in fields like engineering, cybersecurity, and aerospace in their day jobs. This expertise allows the unit to provide quick, practical feedback on new military technologies.
Operation Sentinel Justice 26 is an annual training event that focuses on emerging threats and joint force integration. This year's emphasis on drone defense reflects the military's urgent need to counter cheap, widely available unmanned systems. The results from these assessments are expected to influence how the Army equips and trains its units in the coming years.
