As artificial intelligence, social media, and endless notifications take over more of daily life, some experts say many Americans are struggling with mental fatigue and a sense of being overwhelmed. Amina Zamani, a neuroplasticity specialist, recently spoke about how people can spot the signs of burnout and use the summer months as an opportunity to reset their brains and develop healthier routines.
Zamani explained that the constant flood of information and the pressure to stay connected are not just distractions -- they are actively rewiring the brain in ways that make it harder to focus and relax. She noted that many people do not realize they are in a state of chronic low-grade stress until they step away from their devices. The summer, with its slower pace and longer days, offers a natural window to break those patterns.
She recommended simple steps like setting boundaries with notifications, scheduling tech-free blocks of time, and allowing the brain to experience boredom. According to Zamani, letting the mind wander without a screen in hand is essential for recovery. She also emphasized that recognizing the early signs of burnout, such as irritability, trouble sleeping, or a constant sense of urgency, is the first step toward making lasting changes.
