HP Printing Korea, Global Technology Form Printing Systems Partnership

HP Printing Korea announced on September 7 that it has chosen Global Technology, a semiconductor design firm, as its partner for developing advanced printing systems. The collaboration is set to focus on integrating custom silicon solutions into HP's future printing hardware, aiming to improve performance, energy efficiency, and overall device intelligence.

Under the agreement, Global Technology will provide specialized chip design services tailored to the unique demands of high-volume printing. This includes work on image processing, data compression, and real-time print job management. The move is part of HP's broader strategy to tighten the link between hardware and software, ensuring that its printers can handle increasingly complex workloads without lag or excessive power draw.

Industry watchers see this as a logical step for HP, which has been pushing harder into managed print services and industrial-scale production. By bringing in a dedicated semiconductor partner, the company can offload some of the heavy lifting involved in custom chip development while still retaining control over the final product's architecture. For Global Technology, the deal marks another significant win in the commercial printing sector, a field that often requires highly reliable, long-lifecycle components.

Neither company has disclosed the financial terms or a specific timeline for when the first jointly developed systems might hit the market. However, both sides have indicated that initial engineering work will begin immediately, with prototypes expected in the coming quarters. The partnership is non-exclusive, leaving the door open for either firm to pursue other projects outside of this arrangement.
