BTQ and ICTK Finish Design of Quantum-Resistant QCIM Security Chip

BTQ Technologies and ICTK have announced the completion of a new security chip design aimed at protecting devices against future quantum computing threats. The chip, called QCIM, combines post-quantum cryptography with physically unclonable function (PUF) technology to create a hardware-based security solution.

The QCIM chip is designed to secure devices by generating unique cryptographic keys that cannot be duplicated or cloned. PUF technology uses microscopic variations in silicon manufacturing to produce a distinct fingerprint for each chip. This is paired with post-quantum cryptographic algorithms that can withstand attacks from quantum computers, which are expected to break many current encryption methods.

According to the companies, the chip targets applications in Internet of Things devices, industrial control systems, and other connected hardware that require long-term security. The design phase is now complete, and the next steps involve testing and production.

This development comes as the cybersecurity industry races to prepare for the arrival of practical quantum computers. Many experts believe that within a decade, quantum machines could crack widely used encryption standards like RSA and ECC. Hardware solutions like the QCIM chip aim to provide a defense that cannot be easily patched through software updates.

BTQ and ICTK plan to demonstrate the chip to potential customers in the coming months. The companies did not disclose a timeline for commercial availability.
